@brokensword Beautiful blooms, thanks for sharing!
Do you spray paint the allium after it's done blooming? I started doing that a couple of years, I painted the seeding balls neon orange and they looked so nice so now that's what I do to extend their blooming season

Re: current spring blooming
Never heard of such a thing; care top 'splain Lucy? In more detail that is, because I'm not at all sure what you're doing or why! The answer would be; ah, I just let 'em bloom and slowly recede back into their bulb.Gemma wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:15 am @brokensword Beautiful blooms, thanks for sharing!

So basically after the petals fall down and you're left with a green ball, you can spray paint it the color you like and it will look like it is still bloomingbrokensword wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 8:40 pmNever heard of such a thing; care top 'splain Lucy? I do it to keep the color going, that's all

don't your leaves die back? Mine do. Not even sure I've 'seen' this ball but will be looking for it now!Gemma wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 4:48 pmSo basically after the petals fall down and you're left with a green ball, you can spray paint it the color you like and it will look like it is still bloomingbrokensword wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 8:40 pmNever heard of such a thing; care top 'splain Lucy? Re: current spring blooming
here's a pic to make sure we're talking about the same plant ..when the purple falls down you still have a sphere of seed pods, that's what I paint..the leaves are already dyeing back but you can plant annuals to hide that...I will post a pic for you after I paint minebrokensword wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 8:20 pmdon't your leaves die back? Re: current spring blooming
yeah, that looks like mine alright; guess I never paid much attention once the purple went a way but don't remember any seed pods, though of course, they HAVE multiplied since I got them, so obviously, seeds. I guess I thought they reproduced mainly like tulips, mini bulbs etc. Yes, please do post so I can see what you do with yours. Does painting harm the seeds at all? Or are you not concerned either way?Gemma wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 8:55 pmhere's a pic to make sure we're talking about the same plant ..when the purple falls down you still have a sphere of seed pods, that's what I paint..the leaves are already dyeing back but you can plant annuals to hide that...I will post a pic for you after I paint minebrokensword wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 8:20 pmdon't your leaves die back? Re: current spring blooming
I doubt that paint causes any damage, we use paint to protect tender trees so I wanna say it's safe...but, I'm no expertbrokensword wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 11:30 pmyeah, that looks like mine alright; guess I never paid much attention once the purple went a way but don't remember any seed pods, though of course, they HAVE multiplied since I got them, so obviously, seeds. I wanted a brighter color but this blue was the only paint can I found in the garage and pay no attention to the weeds. I haven't started working on this flowerbed yet
