Re: What eatables are you growing right now that you've never grown before?
If you keep.it in the pot you may be able to get it through the winter. Planted in the ground, the cold will kill it.

Re: What eatables are you growing right now that you've never grown before?
Your artichoke should do fine if you plant it outdoors. It will produce this year, but it won't survive the winter. They are grown as annuals in the north and can live as long as 6 years in warm climates. Also what we eat us the flower bud. If you leave some of those on the plant, they will open to ...

Re: Gemma's Raised Beds and Mini Orchard Project
That's a lot of raised beds! I have 3, but they are large, 4 feet wide and 24 feet long. Any tall things, like corn and tomatoes are planted straight into the garden, not in beds. And winter squash is planted just in the garden as well, on a trellis. The raised beds are of the Hugelkultur variety. I...

Re: What eatables are you growing right now that you've never grown before?
I haven't found any yellow tomatoes that have much flavor, heirloom or not. There are lots of different heirloom varieties and I've tried quite a few of them, looking for the best type. The ones we like best are Cherokee and Atomic Grape tomatoes. Brandywine is also at the top of the list. To us the...

Re: What eatables are you growing right now that you've never grown before?
I don't know much about those tomatoes, just that they are an heirloom variety and they are supposed to have a bit of a citrus flavor. Sounded interesting so I thought I would try them. I hate weeding so I avoid that as much as possible. After the garden is tilled and raked, we roll out that brown p...

New things for me this year are Pineapple tomatoes and Rugosa Friulana squash. Also Black Nebula carrots and Beni Houshi Mizuna, a type of green with purple stems and spikey leaves.

I have grown artichokes from seed, too. They took less than 100 days to be ready to pick. The hard part is knowing just when to pick them. But 2 years seems like an awfully long time to wait for them.

Re: spider lily
That should have been hardy, not hard plants.
Yes, mine are in the pond. They have done very well there.

Re: Does anyone know this plant?
I'm growing Agastache Navajo Sunset plants from seed now. I've not grown it before, but from what I have found, it likes well drained soil and sun. If it's planted in heavy soil, it won't come back the next year. Many gardeners mix agricultural sand in the soil when they plant it to make sure it doe...

Re: spider lily
I'm surprised you have to dig yours up. I have a tub of those in my.pond and they stay there year round. But I do have a greenhouse over the pond in winter so it never freezes.
I just thought they were very hard plants. I learn something new every day.

I think you forgot to mention the lovely dog. Is that a new arrival for the pond too?

Re: unusual turkey?
A neighbor has some and they are really pretty turkeys, if you can apply that term to turkeys, that is.
Maybe that one will find it's way home. Seems odd it would wander away from the others, but it looks like it's doing fine on it's own. Or maybe there are others off camera.
