Cardinal Lobelia
Cardinal Lobelia
So I thought this plant was called "Cardinal" because of the bright red blooms but then I went shopping for plants this weekend and found a Cardinal with really dark leaves and Rose blooms ...how many other Cardinal varieties are there that I don't know about?

Re: Cardinal Lobelia
I read over 2400 types and they are poisonous to humans and pets. Never had one myself. Very pretty tho looking on the net. Guess if you can keep kids and pets away from them they are fine.

Re: Cardinal Lobelia
well, I know MINE is some variety as the blooms are a darker red, almost maroon (pics forthcoming when they bloom!) and NOT the brighter red I've seen on others! Probably going to get one of those some day and mix it in with what I have!
Re: Cardinal Lobelia
Too many of the plants I have ( Caladium, Azalea, Coleus) are listed to be poisonous to some degree...I just wont eat them

My Pink Cardinal just started blooming! The blooms are bright and a lot larger than my red Cardinal

Re: Cardinal Lobelia
yeah, I know; I may have to get that version as it's quite striking! Mine have not bloomed yet, but are almost tall enough to start. I typically have to tie them up as when it rains/they get heavy, they sag and the flower stalk strives to point 'up'. If I don't get to them in time, they look weird upright and their flower stalk at odd angles! Definitely like the color of yours!

Re: Cardinal Lobelia
Hey Gemma; if you want, we can swap some Cardinals! Your bright red for some of my darker ones? Let me know!!! They grow pretty decently for me, so got plenty for you if you want!
Re: Cardinal Lobelia
