Re: Bog Build
The waterfall was dismantled and replaced with a smaller version to serve as the return bog water. Waterfall before the bog: 20130721_171003.jpg https://i.imgur.com/l8wTkRk.jpg In this picture I have dismantled the waterfall (on the left) and flipped the existing pond liner that was under the waterf...

Re: Bog Build
I'm still having issues with posting a picture. They are too large. I never have problems in other forums, they seem to adjust the size automatically. The one in my last post worked fine because I emailed it to myself! The email resized it. I'm doing this on my android phone. I tried on my Mac by dr...

Re: Bog Build
As requested, I'm going to try chronicling my add-on bog. I'll do it in a few or more posts, I think. It was added to my 10 year old pond April 2020. Mine is the simple basic type with PVC distribution pipes covered with 12" of river stone. I believe the recipe calls for 3/8" pea gravel, b...

Re: Bog Build
Hey 'sword.... I like how you used some of by pictures for that video! It just amazes me how you do that! Especially how you added each stone, one by one for the outline wall! Cool! Anyway, if I were to do it all over, I would connect the two clean-out stacks with a wye and a valve for each. Then r...

I used to use my trail cam, but since I got the wireless Blink system for all around the house, that's what I now have by the pond. It does have to be within range of your wifi though. It's easier than the trail cam since it records on the cloud (with a $100 per year subscription) and you can watch ...

Re: Planting method
I found that the best way of planting in my pond is by taking the plants (bare root) and placing the roots in the middle of a square of burlap with some pebbles and then tying jute cord around the top just above the ball and then cutting off the excess around the collar... Just plop them where you ...

Re: pond plants?
I would add a picture, but I can't figure out how! Duh! PJ; you can drag from your desktop to the dialog window, or, you can use the 'Imgur' icon above the dialog box (looks like an 'i') and it will ask which pic you want, you select, it then does it's magic. If you go with the first method (for an...

:Heyhmm: @darkmuse Parrots Feather where I live comes back after Winter. It looks like it's dead but always makes a comeback and we have gone below -6f for a few days. It can take quite cold freezing as I have a friend who lives in MD and it gets temps pretty low back there for longer periods and lo...

Re: cleaning the pond
Everyone's water gets a bit cloudy in the Spring. The beneficial bacteria and plants need time to wake up. brokensword explained a bog very well. Adding the bog was the best thing I did for my pond and me. No cleaning of any filters or filter pads. Just crystal clear water. As I said, it will be a l...

Re: what's your process for opening the pond
I also do a slow thorough netting along the bottom. I do that in the Fall and Spring. I keep the pond and bog covered with a leaf net all winter, but I still get some accumulated muck on the bottom of the pond come Springtime. No filter pads to clean here. I filter with a bog. The bog runs 24/7/365....
